New EGR -hesitation/start up issues. Control arms, drop links, anti roll bar bushes and a new egr too. Ever since the work was completed though, the car is suffering from a hesitation within the mid rev range and the car is taking a few more turns to start up. Am wondering what might be causing it but I imagine the new egr has fixed 1 issue
iTrader: ( 0) chrissy: If the EGR is mapped out, the cooler is redundant. But to remove it you need to blank off the connections at each end, and also the coolant lines. I think the coolant blanks you need are 18mm. The exhaust manifold blank can be purchased on ebay, as can a replacement for the EGR valve on the intake.

I cleared the code and the 40D4 (EGR controller position control) comes back in a day or two. Just to give a heads up on what I have tried. - Cleaned the Throttle Valve ( it is as shinny as new ) - Cleaned the EGR Valve ( it is also as shinny as new ) - Cleaned the MAF Sensor. - Cleaned the MAP Sensor.

Best way to test the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation valve) on these cars is with the factory BMW scanner "ISTA". With a capable scanner it is possible to activate the valve for testing purposes and then check the sensor feedback if it is moving correctly.

I have a 2012 X5 diesel that has had no troubles for 60k miles. Not long ago, the check engine light came on. No drivability problems whatsoever though. Dealer pulled P045 code.
hsindogg. 649 posts · Joined 2010. #7 · May 1, 2019. I had a similar issue, it is probably not the swirl flaps/manifold. It is most likely the EGR is stuck open, with a failed spring. Let them fix the SCR tank, thank them and take your E70 to an Indy and get the EGR replaced first. It should be about $600-700 with labor.
Use a EGR or Carburetor Cleaner to spray the valve and hoses. Reconnect the battery. STEP 4: EGR Valves are made up of various hoses along with the valve. You will want to spray all it it thoroughly and use a suitable brush to remove tough residue. Do NOT spray the electrical sensors with the cleaner.
The problem here is, that, not only is your car running less efficient and with less power, but also the soot produced will clog up several parts such as EGR cooler and actuator etc. Carbon will be building in your Air Intake Manifold which then needs to be replaced as well.
Fault codes are: P2457which is insufficient effectiveness EGR cooler, faulty bypass valve or insufficient capacity. 4C83 exhaust pressure before turbine implausible. 4990 exhaust pressure before turbine implausible. 4729 NOx sensor after Denox kat performance or range problem (oxygen concentration too low on overrun)
I have a BMW-specific fault code reader and I regularly get the following codes: 255C00 - EGR actuator position control valve too far open / negative control deviation; 272E00 - Exhaust-gas recirculation valve plausibility. Mechanically faulty near closed position; 272F00 - Exhaust-gas recirculation valve plausibility.
